Villa Copenhagen
We have supplied exclusive glass solutions to Villa Copenhagen.
The five-star luxury hotel, Villa Copenhagen, located in central Copenhagen, epitomises quality, exclusivity, and meticulously crafted solutions. When the hotel required new glass installations, there was no compromise on custom solutions or wow factor. We produced and delivered the hotel’s bespoke glass solutions.
Among the customised glass features adorning the former post office, now transformed into the luxurious Villa Copenhagen, are a three-dimensional view across floors, glass balustrades, and granite columns with 24 unique glass pieces.
“Villa Copenhagen has been an exciting project for us, as we were allowed to fully customise the glass solutions to suit the hotel’s extravagant style. The prominent building, with more than 100 years of history and a listed status, required us to help create an outstanding experience for visitors within the impressive building, where craftsmanship and attention to detail are evident in every aspect.”
Among other things, we produced and delivered a circular double-glazed floor unit in an EI60 fire rating, with a diameter of 162 centimetres and a thickness of 84 millimetres, creating a three-dimensional view from the reception down into the kitchen below.
“To create an exciting space, the hotel wanted transparent glass rather than a traditional ceiling between the kitchen and reception floors. We produced a specially durable fire glass, combined with floor glass and curved toughened glass to form a balustrade, allowing a three-dimensional view from the reception down to the kitchen, creating a unique effect across both floors.”
The majestic granite columns in the old hall, where post carriages once entered and exited, have also been enhanced with 24 unique floor glass pieces featuring a specialised printing technique:
“When the hotel uncovered the old granite columns, they wanted to highlight them further, drawing attention to the authentic structure. We set about creating a bespoke glass solution that was both unique and met safety requirements. We scanned 1:1 templates and produced 24 unique glass pieces with black-printed edges, arranged in a pattern around the columns. This design illuminates the columns from below through the floor glass.”
Focus on both design and safety
“When glass panels of this size have a crucial function, they must be manufactured to withstand all challenges. For instance, we used 92 balustrade glass pieces around the rooftop terrace and pool area. Here, we used SentryGlas® interlayer, which is moisture-resistant and weatherproof, ensuring the glass can withstand Danish weather and has exceptional strength.
“Our primary task has been to think outside the box and tailor each piece of glass. Glass is not just glass; at Villa Copenhagen, each piece has been crafted to fit its specific location, ensuring top-level safety and design. In this regard, the SentryGlas® interlayer is an ideal solution, as it maintains safety even if both layers of glass are broken, although this rarely happens.”
