Søtorvet

1,026 pieces of glass for Søtorvet, a Swan-labelled new district in Silkeborg.

The second phase of construction for the new Swan-labelled district, Søtorvet, in Silkeborg has just begun. In connection with this, we have supplied a total of 1,026 pieces of glass, which will frame 283 balconies and rooftop terraces, as well as an elevated city park inspired by New York's High Line.

Safety has been a key consideration in the project, particularly for the glass balustrades on the balconies and rooftop terraces. To ensure personal safety, the glass balustrades must be able to maintain their protective function even if the glass is unexpectedly shattered by stone throws or similar impacts. This is achieved using a Saflex® Structural interlayer, which offers high strength and load-bearing capacity.

The glass balustrades help maintain the light and airy aesthetic while ensuring an unobstructed view from the apartments. However, when using glass balustrades with exposed edges, there is a greater risk of so-called delamination, where the glass develops small droplets or becomes discoloured at the edges, potentially ruining the view and the elegant appearance. The interlayer has the clear advantage of minimising the risk of delamination, as it does not absorb moisture.
