Safety and Security Glass

Protection for people and buildings

Safety and Security Glass is used to protect and secure individuals, while security glass is intended to guard against burglary and similar acts. With safety and security glass, you can allow natural daylight to enter without compromising on personal safety or the protection of people and valuables.

3 types safety and security glass

  1. Toughened glass breaks into many small, blunt pieces if shattered.
  2. Laminated glass stays together even if broken.
  3. Toughened laminated glass is a combination of the two types.
Safety Glass

Safety Glass is used to protect individuals. The glass either has greater strength than standard glass and breaks into many small, blunt pieces if shattered, or it is held together by a interlayer even if it breaks.

Toughened Glass breaks into small, non-sharp pieces if shattered. Glass that is to be toughened is heated to around 750 degree Celsius, making it less rigid. It is then "shock cooling" through rapid cooling, which creates internal stresses in the glass, making it significantly stronger than standard glass. Toughened glass is 3-5 times stronger than regular glass of the same thickness. When it breaks, it shatters into countless small pieces, but these pieces are not sharp. Learn more about our toughening process here.

Laminated Glass consists of at least two layers of glass that are "bonded" together with an interlayer in the middle. The interlayer holds the glass together if it shatters. The "sandwich" of glass and interlayer is heated under pressure to expel any air and to fuse the materials together. Multiple layers og glass can be combined to achieve greater strength. The lamination makes the entire glass more durable. If the glass breaks, it maintains its shape, and the shards remain attached to the interlayer. Learn more about interlayer types here.

Glass can also be both toughened and laminated, thereby combining the properties of toughened and laminated glass.

This is done by laminating at least two toughened glass panes together. This creates an even stronger glass, where the shards remain attached even if the glass is shattered.

Toughened and laminated glass is often used for mirrors, bathroom glass, glass walls, glass shelves, and glass doors.

Toughened Laminated Glass is primarily used for exterior and interior glass balustrades, glass doors, glass partitions, freestanding glass walls, glass roofs, and glass floors.

Security Glass

Security Glass is used to prevent, for example, vandalism and burglary. When a specific security rating is required, Laminated Glass is always necessary, and in some cases, it may also be toughened.

The function of Laminated Security Glass is to prevent or delay penetration - whether in accidents or potential criminal activities. The resistance of the Laminated Glass is determined by the thickness of the glass and interlayer, as well as the number of layers of glass and interlayers used.

The P5A glass type is chosen to prevent or delay penetration, for example, to protect against fall injuries, falling glass, vandalism, and pressure loads.

P6B, P7B og P8B are multi-laminated glass types that provide the same level of security as Laminated Glass but at a higher breakage resistance level. Penetration is signifcantly prevented or delayed, even in the case of very powerful and well-planned attack. Therefore, it is primarily used for burglary protection.
